Leverage tourism to boost Kaduna economy, expert tells Gov Sani

An expert in the tourism sector, Dr. Tobi Bernard Thomas, has advised that Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Uba Sani to leverage on the hospitality and tourism sector to boost the economy of the state.

Dr. Thomas explained that Kaduna state can leverage on tourism to drive an increase in state’s revenue by strategically promoting their unique attractions, cultural offerings, and events to attract visitors.

Making the suggestion weekend in Kaduna, Dr. Thomas noted that with improved tourism sector in the state, it is capable of stimulating economic activities, supporting local businesses, and increasing revenue through tourism-related expenditures.

Dr. Thomas who is the Kaduna State Coordinator of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), further stated that tourism boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of jobs, develops the infrastructures of a country, and plants a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens.

While speaking at a press conference, the expert stressed that the state is abundantly blessed with cultural tourism, education tourism, religion tourism amongst others, hence the need for the state government to utilized the available resources for economic prosperity of the state.

“Tourism revenues boost government revenues, household income, and increase employment opportunities, therefore leading to economic growth and prosperity for a state,” he emphasised.

Dr. Thomas disclosed that the state is blessed with ten tourist attractions which according to him include; Kajuru Castle, Splash Park, Kamuku National Park, Matsirga Waterfalls, Kaduna National Museum, Emir of Zazzau Palace, Saint Bartholomew’s Church, Kaduna Golf Club, Kaduna Golf Club and Nok Village.

“Tourism is vast, its potentials and the values it adds to any state or nation that is ready to boost her economy is enormous and I appeal to the Kaduna state government not to rest on their oars, but to do more in giving the industry its place of pride.

“As a critical stakeholder in the Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality industry, it is my responsibility to advise the government to show commitment and partner the private sector in building the sector,” Dr. Thomas explained.
