FCE (Special), Oyo, Celebrates

The Federal College of Education, (Special) Oyo, recently held its 16th convocation ceremony at an event witnessed by several bigwigs in the education and declared open by the Hon. Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

The college was uniquely established to cater for students who have various educational impairments and it is the only established school for such in West Africa.

“The college has been producing great men and women who have contributed their quota to the development of the nation,” the Provost of the college, Dr. Femi Adeniyi, said in his welcome address.

While declaring the ceremony open, Mallam Shekarau who eulogised the historic city of Oyo as the cradle of Yoruba tradition and culture said, he was happy for what he called his “home coming”.

The minister highlighted the relevance of education sector to the present government’s reform which he said had been considered as a fundamental pillar of human rights, democracy, sustainable development and peace.

“We believe that education remains very critical to bringing about the needed transformation of the nation and building the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.

Shekarau continued: “On our part, in the quest to turnaround the fortunes of the Nigerian education industry, my ministry will continue to prosecute the roadmap for the transformation of the education sector with higher education as a major thrust”.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the commissioning of several projects within the campus, which the provost said were put in place to accelerate the course of education in tandem with the visions of the school’s forefathers.
