Osborn Nweze Umahi: From governor’s son to business mogul

Since he came into the limelight a few years ago, Osborn Nweze Umahi who is the first son of David Umahi, former governor of Ebonyi State and present Minister of Works, has continued to remain an enigma to the Nigerian public.

At the young age of 26, he has been in the saddle of Brass Oil and Construction Limited for more than four years as the managing director.

He was barely over 21 when he took over the company founded by his father, who had to relinquish the management of the day-to-day operations to him so he could focus on his duties and responsibilities as the governor of Ebonyi State.

As the first child, Osborn Nweze Umahi, was born on March 14, 1998, and had his primary and secondary school education in Nigeria before moving to London at the age of 15 to pursue further studies.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Surrey, England, at the age of 21, and returned home to Nigeria as a qualified civil engineer.

He cut his teeth as an engineer and a businessperson working under the tutelage of his father. He returned briefly to the United Kingdom to earn a Master’s in Finance and Investment Management at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

The qualifications further lend credibility to his expertise as an investment expert, in addition to his working as director of finance at Forte GCC Innovative Solutions.

He proved his clout as an entrepreneur when he embarked on setting up the Osborn La-Palm Resort, which has grown into a hotel chain with branches in Abakiliki, Port Harcourt and Abuja.

He also owned the Osborn Foundation, which made news in 2023 when he donated books and other writing materials to schools in Kano, in addition to enrolling 50 indigent students in secondary school in Ebonyi State.
