A Turkish cargo aircraft from Istanbul, Turkey was yesterday sent back to its base by members of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) for sacking four of its Nigerian workers.
The cargo aircraft which arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport at about noon Sunday from Istanbul was prevented from offloading its cargo by the union members who were angry over the sack of its Nigerian workers in their airline.
It was learnt that the management of the airline did not enter into an agreement with the union before carrying out the sack.
A source at the airport told Daily Times that they were fed up with the apartheid attitude of foreign airlines towards their Nigerian counterparts that the airline was hiding under COVID-19 as the reason for their sack
“As I am speaking with you now, we have turned back the Turkish cargo airline which arrived Lagos from Istanbul for discrimination and sacking of four Nigerian workers”
“The aircraft was denied offloading and spent three hours before going back to base. We are sending a message to foreign airlines that Nigeria is not a place where you treat workers without respect and dignity”, said one of the union members.
