As the 2015 general elections gathers momentum, the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC/V2P), Nnewi Diocese in collaboration with Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra South senatorial zone have organised a political forum geared towards enabling the candidates of the various political parties in the area to unveil their manifestoes.
The event which was held yesterday at Anaedo Town Hall, attracted electorates and delegates from each town, unions, interest groups, among other stakeholders, and 4 House of Representative candidates, 2 State House of Assembly contestants, and 1 Senatorial hopeful.
They included Chief Ernest Ndukwe, the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA); Hon. Chris Azubogu, the standard flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency; and his counterparts Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor of United Democratic Party (UDP); and Hon. Obiorah Onyeabo of Labour Party (LP).
Speaking to the newsmen shortly after the event, Engr. Jimmy Asoegwu, the Treasurer of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, explained that the forum was an interactive session between the electorates and the political party candidates.
On her part, the Programme Manager of JDPC, Nnewi Diocese, Ugochi Ehiahumike, while describing the event as a huge success, disclosed that JDPC chose to partner Ohanaeze on the project in-line with her Voice To The People Project targeted at making governance work for poor and marginalised people.
According to Ehiahumike, the platform afforded the voters opportunity to present their charter of demands to those gunning to represent them at the federal and state level so as to inform them their basic needs for quality representation and accountability via legislation and execution of constituency projects when elected.
Daily Times reported that each of the candidates was given equal opportunity to present their plans, as well to respond to the various questions the electorates asked them individually.
