A House of Representatives aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Surulere Constituency 01 of Lagos State, Aderemi Banjo has assured residents of the constituency that if elected to the position he will restore hope and opportunity to the people and put a new song in their mouths.
Banjo said he mission to the lower chamber of the National Assembly is to bring the much needed dividend of democracy and effectively represent their and attract more Federal Government presence to the constituency.
Banjo who spoke at a stakeholders meeting at the Alaka Community Recreation Centre, Surulere, where he declared his intentions to the people, assured the residents of the constituency that “I will join others in addressing some of the fundamental problems of the country’s economic development, political stability, technological advancement and social progress.
“I will join others in accelerating the improvement in infrastructure, industry and agriculture, I will address the needs of artisans, market women, unemployed, physically challenged, youth, women, elderly, private organisations, civil servants, religious organisations and others in the constituency.
“I will improve educational standard and create jobs for Surulere residents through SME, skill acquisition, training programmes, retraining opportunities, apprenticeships, holiday coaching, provision of forms, bursary, academic materials and transportation.
“I will build health facilities, recreation centres and community halls in different parts of the constituency. I will honour past heroes, provide fund for widows, constituency allowance for the people and logistics for party meetings,” he said.
The aspirant who seeks to displace the current Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila added that he believes that his experience will stand him out in the race.
“It is my firm belief that given my nearly two decades as technocrat, administrator and political actor in the country, (former national chairman, former state secretary of MPPP and two times candidate for Federal House of Representatives) with my involvement in community development, my deep knowledge and understanding of party politics and lawmaking, I stand in a vantage position to provide the right leadership to catapult Surulere Constituency 1 to prosperity.”
While urging the people to believe in his to go a good job for them, Banjo asked, “Has the incumbent lived up to expectation? Does the incumbent deserve our mandate for another four years?
Is Surulere Constituency 01 in dire need of development? Do we have federal presence in Surulere Constituency 01? Do we have faces of misery in our constituency? Are the youths jobless? Are people tired of the four-term incumbent? Can we tolerate this for another four years?”
He advised the people to trust him to do a better job of representation, “Let us not be distracted. Politics is about service and bringing development to the people.
Our politics must be a civilised social game of ladies and gentlemen. Our ambition must not be greater than the interest of the people we wish to serve. Our concern should be the plans for the wonderful people of Surulere Constituency 1.”
