The senator representing Delta North senatorial district at the National Assembly, Ned Nwoko has renewed his call for the creation of Anioma state, from the current Anioma region of Delta State.

Senator Nwoko made the call at an interactive session with indigenes of Anioma in Abuja.

Senator Ned Nwoko said the actualization of the agenda was necessary to ensure equity and social justice in the Nigerian federal structure.

The senator noted that many Anioma sons and daughters are notable leaders in key industries like the business and banking sectors and the entertainment industry, who would make Anioma the envy of other states if it was created.

Senator Nwoko stressed that “other issues are secondary, whether Anioma will be part of South-South, or Midwest, or SouthEast that would depend on you, not me.

“The fact is that, an Anioma State will be a very important state. We have six of the nine local governments already producing oil and gas.”

The legislator also spoke of the historical significance of the creation of the Anioma State.

He said “who here has heard about The Ekwumekwu War? Historically, we fought the Europeans, just to be left alone.

“My great-grandfather, was one of those kings that fought the Europeans. So, whatever they finished, is what we are continuing, I just want you to understand.”

Earlier, the President General of Asaba Development Union, Abuja branch, Chief Godfrey Odogwu, emphasised that the creation of Anioma state was long overdue.

Similarly, the Branch President, Ogwashi-Uku Development Association, Mr. Patrick Obi, added that the emergence of the proposed state would lead to the rapid development of the Anioma area.
