The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered the immediate suspension of processing and issuing of building plan approvals for Lugbe District, as well as all ongoing developments within the district.
According to a statement by the Director, Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, the decision became imperative so as to give room for the ongoing harmonisation of developments in the district in line with the Abuja Master Plan.
This, he explained was as a result of the alarming state of illegal developments in Lugbe in contravention of the Abuja Master Plan, including arbitrary change of land use, among others.
Further explaining why the harmonization process was inperative, it decried the current state of illegal developments in Lugbe, revealing that there were myriad of contraventions, including which must be corrected.
“This is to inform the general public that the department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, is not granting building plan approval for developments in Lugbe due to the ongoing harmonisation exercise of the District in line the Abuja Master Plan.
“Consequently, any developer found to be developing any property within Lugbe District without the requisite building approvals from the department is doing so at his/her own risk as the department will enforce appropriate sanctions in accordance with the provisions of the law, including demolition of such illegal properties,” it warned.
The statement which urged the public to be “guided and ensure compliance in order to avoid relevant sanctions”, also advised developers to stop illegal conversion of approved buildings to other uses, especially from residential into commercial use, even as it ordered defaulters to immediately revert such abuses or face demolition.

Corroborating Galadima’s position on ongoing developments, Ahmed warned developers in the area to stop work because the Federal Government has already designated Lugbe District a “planning area.”
Speaking on the proposed completion date of the harmonization process, the FCTA Director, Planning, Hajiya Zalihau Ahmed, said the date cannot be confirmed as the Administration is currently on the second stage of the exercise.
Furthermore, she explained that many factors were responsible for the completion of the exercise, including payment, which she said was hampered by COVID-19.
