Tata said on Wednesday in Kano that the move was in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

According to her, the scheme has already written the Kano state Task Force Committee on COVID-19, seeking its support to commence the production of the items.

She said that the NYSC was willing to play critical roles in stamping out the dreaded disease out of the country.

“We have no fewer than 12,700 corps members in Kano, many of them are skilled in the processing of hand sanitisers, liquid soap and face mask.

“This is part of the skills they acquired during the orientation course; these skills will be useful to the country at a time like this, we only need the right spur,” he said.

The NYSC coordinator said that indulging in such venture with the support of the state government would make the items available for the public use.

Tata added that the scheme had converted its orientation camp at Kusallah, in Karaye Local Government Area, to a temporary Isolation Centre.

She said the decision was in accordance with directives of the NYSC national headquarters, requesting state offices to prepare orientation camps for use as isolation centers.

The Coordinator urged corps members in the state to sensitise their host communities on measures being used to prevent the spread of the virus.(NAN)
