A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), party as an ad-hoc assembly of politicians whose emergence in 2015 could only be ascribed to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former governor of Jigawa State said without Buhari the APC is a dead party because it was not firmly knitted as a political party but an amalgamation of politically strange bed fellows, with Buhari, a non- democrat as the arrow head.
According to him, the APC as today is populated by ex-PDP members, “minus PDP, there is nothing called APC. The party APC has no history, no vision, it is a party of hate”.
Lamido who was at the PDP national secretariat on Thursday to notify the party leadership of his intention to contest the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2019 polls said he is interested in governing Nigeria as a stakeholder in the country.
He said despite humiliation and harassment he suffered in the hands of the present APC government he remained in the PDP, a party he had helped to build and nurtured.
He said PDP is the only political force capable of dislodging the failed APC and leading Nigeria back to her lost glory.
The former Foreign Affairs minister therefore urged the national working committee and national executive committee of PDP to scrutinise all aspirants and give Nigeria the best option to Buhari in 2019.
Assuring the party of his capacity to fly the PDP flag, he said “standing before you here is not one of the aspirants but the presidential candidate of the party. PDP is in my flesh, my blood and my marrow”.
Responding, the party’s national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus said as a rebranded party that is ready to set examples of democratic principles in Africa, PDP leadership will give all aspirants from the national to local government levels fair playing ground in the various primaries to be held.
He said with the current leadership, impunity and imposition are things of the past promising to surpass the credible conduct of its governorship primary in Ekiti State according to the party’s guidelines and constitution.
“We want to assure you that there will be no money politics, there will be no manipulation of the choice of the people. We cannot be purchased”, he promised.
“With the current NEC, we are ready to send Buhari to Daura to go and rest to improve upon his health,” he said.
The chairman however earned the APC government against rigging the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti while calling on security agents to avoid being used as accomplice in election malpractices.
“We advised Mr. President to call on security agents not to participate in any ploy to support anybody or party in the Ekiti election because Nigeria has been divided enough,” he added.
