Buhari can’t secure Nigeria, must be changed, says Dankwambo group

The current Federal administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari has completely failed to deliver quality service to the nation and therefore must be changed with a more robust and well-focused leadership that would deliver Nigeria from poverty, insecurity and other social plaques facing the country.

The above was the position of a new group, Dankwambo Presidential Project (DPP) after its maiden national meeting in Abuja Wednesday. The group is promoting the political ambition of the current Gombe State Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.

Addressing newsmen Wednesday night after their meeting which took place at the Gombe State lodge in Asokoro Abuja, the group’s National Coordinator Barr. Zach Okoronkwo noted that President Buhari came to power boasting that he had what it takes to solve the nation’s security challenges among other promises, stating however that insecurity has reached its highest level in the country with people being killed like chickens under Buhari’s watch.

Okoronkwo said his is out to persuade Governor Dankwambo to seek the office of the President in 2019 because he has all it takes to rescue Nigeria from bad governance, citing his educational background, age and quality service delivery at the national level as well as his Eight years as governor of Gombe State.

“Our mission is to persuade Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo that Nigeria is waiting for him, Nigerians are expecting him to run for 2019 because this government of President Muhammadu Buhari is a total failure as it has no solution to the economy, security, education, everything. Look at what is happening in Jos where hundreds of citizens are being killed with no one to control the situation.

Look at Zamfara, Benue, Borno, Taraba, everywhere. And this is a government boasting it has defeated Boko Haram when the group is still killing scores of people everyday.

“Nigeria needs a younger leadership and we are asking Governor Dankwambo that he is the right person to do the job. He has the requisite knowledge acquired through education and other trainings.

He has proved his capacity both as accountant general of the federation and as governor of Gombe State for about seven years now. Dankwambo is detribalised, he is well enlightened to constitute a government that would be all inclusive.

We will persuade him to sun,” the group stated.

Asked if Dankwambo was ready to accept the challenge to contest the office of the President in 2019 in view of the fact that he has not made public announcement of such intention, Okoronkwo said his group was aware that the governor is conculting like others, adding that Dankwambo does not believe in noisemaking.

“As a politician, he has to consult before coming out to the public and we know that he is consulting. I would like you to know that the governor is interested in the contest otherwise we would not be allowed to use Gombe State office here in Abuja for this meeting.

So we know that he is interested and that is why we are out to encourage him to come out and declare his intention.

There are many problems facing the country currently and he has the answers to those problems. He has done it in Abuja and in Gombe. It is time to replicate the massive development in Gombe across Nigeria,” Okoronkwo noted.

On the question of capacity to fund a presidential campaign against other aspirants who are said to boast of heavy war chests, the group said though Dankwambo does not believe in flamboyance or extravagance, he would spend money once he is convinced there is a reason to do so.

“Dankwambo is a successful man. He is a technocrat and you cannot call him a poor man. Although he is prudent in financial and material management, he has the capacity to pick his bills because he is a successful man.

And don’t forget also that presidential campaign is not a one man show. The governor is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party is rich and has what it takes to finance a presidential campaign especially if a credible candidate like Dankwambo is its flag bearer,” he concluded.
