The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has flagged off the construction of the N120bn Bonny-Bodo Road in a ground-breaking ceremony in Bonny, Rivers State.

In a brief speech at the ceremony, the Vice President said that the flag off of the 40- kiliometre project demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region.

The project which is jointly funded by the Federal Government and the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) would provide alternative route to assessing the Riverrine town of Bonny.

According to the terms of the agreement signed earlier, the Federal Government and the NLNG would contribute N60billion each to construct the road which is expected to be completed in four years.

Earlier, the Vice President was welcomed to the state by Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The Senator, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by his spokesman, Parry Saroh Benson, stated that the commitment of the Federal Government to the completion of the Bodo-Bonny Road was praise worthy.

Senator Abe said that the project showed that the Buhari-led administration was committed to the development of the Niger Delta region.

He said: “This is Professor Osinbajo’s second visit to flag-off projects in Rivers State in the last three months. It goes a long way to show the effort and commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to the development of the Niger Delta.”
