Insecurity in Edo: IPAC begs Presidency to intervene

The chairman of the Edo State chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon. Agol, has added her voice to the recent call by some residents of the state to the presidency to intervene in the security situation in the state and address the issue holistically.

She stated that the call has become imperative in the sense that if the situation is not nipped in the bud it may degenerate to a much colossal level such that the much talked about democratic dividends may become just a mirage.

Hon. Agol stressed that “in recent times the spate of murders, kidnappings, armed robberies, assassinations and other criminal acts in Edo State, most especially, is so massive that the security agencies are being stretched to their limits”.

The IPAC chairman recalled some of the high caliber crimes as the assassination of a University of Benin (UNIBEN) lecturer, Professor Otasowie; the abduction of a musician, Osayomore Joseph and also the kidnapping of Andy Ehanire, a reputable games reserve manager.

Hon. Agol stressed that presently the state needs to be freed from such inappropriate acts so as not to scare off foreign investors that Governor Godwin Obaseki is desirous of attracting to the state.

She however charged all residents to play roles that will in a short while put a stop to all the ‘barbaric’ attitude of criminality that is causing the state a setback in terms of desired development.
