Katsina to address menace of forest reserves and cattle routes encroachment

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of katsina state has declared open a meeting on the menace of forest reserves and cattle routes encroachment in the state.

Speaking shortly after declaring the meeting open on Thursday at the local government service commission conference hall in katsina, Masari said for years, provisions and plans were not made for urbanisation.

“Increase in population of animals, programmes and policies were unfolded but not implemented “, he said, adding that developed societies have plans on farm lands and cattle ranges.

He therefore stressed the need to device ways to check the problems of encroachment on cattle routes, noting that, the secretary to the state government committee on cattle menace has tried in bringing lasting peace and reduce farmers/fulani confrontations in the state.

He however assured that, as leaders, they owed it a duty to face the issue of the encroachment on cattle routes to ensure a lasting peace.

On his part, the Secretary to the State Government, SGS, Mustapha Mohammed Inuwa said diminishing of cattle routes pose security threats which need to be addressed.

According to him, the meeting was in continuation of efforts on consultations on matters that affect the well-being of people, stressing that, peace and security of lives and property remain a priority to the present administration.

In his remark, the chairman farmers/fulani relationship committee, Alhaji Abdulaziz kofar Sauri said a number of forest reserves and cattle routes have been encroached across the state.

Kofar Sauri called for the strengthening of powers of the forestry officers redemacation and punishment for offenders that encroach grazing and forest reserves.
