A source in the family told our correspondent that culturally and traditionally women in the family are not by any rights entitled to share in their late brother’s inheritance which includes houses, farmland and landed property.

Investigation however revealed that the decision of the family after an emergency meeting by elders of the extended family on March 5th 2022 however denied wife and daughter Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon of the late Matthew Emwiongbon any access or part of the inheritance which further plunged the chaotic situation into more crisis as Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon was said to have reportedly hidden all original documents to her late father’s landed property and houses with the family lawyer.

As the family infighting continued over access to the original documents and its recovery from Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon, on October 9th 2022 the crisis claimed its first casualty when thugs led by Abel Emwiongbon, immediate younger brother of the deceased, stormed the residence of his deceased elder brother to retrieve the documents.

It was gathered that the thugs fired sporadic gunshots which reportedly hit the widow of Late Matthew Emwiongbon while others immediately scampered for safety to avoid being hit by stray bullets as thugs were said to have reportedly assaulted and manhandled Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon by violently hitting and kicking her on the floor as she tearfully watched death snatched life away from her dying mother after she was hit by a bullet.

Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon was said to have reportedly fled from Benin City by relocating to Lagos State on March 7th 2023 after several attempts to seek help from the police station did not yield the expected results as the police refused to call the family of the deceased Matthew Emwiongbon to order further heightening the worsened tension in the family as the harrasment and threats to life further continued unabated when her supermarket was set ablaze by the thugs on March 6th 2023.

However the family lawyer was also not spared of the vicious attack by the thugs who violently attacked him and allegedly shot his leg to compel him to disclose the whereabout of the fleeing Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon, it was confirmed.

Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon was however paid an unexpected and unscheduled visit by her relatives and the thugs on September 5th 2023 while seeking refuge in Lagos State where terror of unimaginable magnitude was unleashed on her as the thugs shot and killed instantly her uncle’s son as they were unable to retrieve the landed documents to the property of their deceased brother.

As the worsening tension between Adesuwa Faith Emwiongbon and members of her extended family deepens over family inheritance of the late Matthew Emwiongbon, confirmed report however emerged that she reportedly fled from Lagos State to an undisclosed location after the gruesome murder of the only child of her uncle who asked her to leave his house immediately.
