Tourism Minister sets up committee on grading of tourist accommodation establishment

The Hon. Minister for Tourism, Lola Ade-John, recently inaugurated the Multi-Disciplinary Committee on Classification and Grading of Tourist Accommodation Establishments. This initiative is in line with the ECOWAS regional agenda to enhance tourism standards and competitiveness across member states.

Under the framework of the ECOTOUR 19-29 Action Plan, which outlines strategies for sustainable tourism development from 2019 to 2029, the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority, (NTDA), is tasked to lead as the driving agency and secretariat for this committee.

With a distinguished line up of committee members representing various sectors, including the Federal Ministry of Tourism, NTDA, National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN), Nigeria Hotel Association, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Federal Ministry of Health, and the Federal Capital Territory Social Development Secretariat, we are poised to make a lasting impact on the tourism landscape.

The ECOTOUR 19-29 Action Plan serves as our guiding framework, providing a roadmap for sustainable tourism development in the ECOWAS region. Through collaborative efforts and a commitment to excellence, we aim to elevate the quality and standards of tourist accommodations, thereby enhancing the overall visitor experience and promoting Nigeria as a premier tourism destination.
