The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile has threatened that it will shut down offices of the Nigerian government in the southeast, Biafra land.
The Prime Minister of Biafra Government (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa disclosed this in a statement through its official X handle on Saturday.
This is as BRGIE demanded the demilitarisation of the region, acceptance of the Biafra Referendum and the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
BRGIE noted that traders, markets, businesses, banks and hospitals are exempted from the shutdown.
“The Biafra government is ready to close down all Nigeria government houses and offices within Biafra territory for a month.
The details of the shutdown will be announced during the next State of the Union address.
“Our demands are as follows: Withdrawal of all Nigeria’s security forces from all Biafra land;
“Accept the Biafra Self Referendum, which has recorded over 49million votes.
“Release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra political prisoners.
“The lockdown does not apply to traders, markets, businesses, Banks and hospitals”, BRGIE stated.
Recall that part of the demand of the ongoing protests in Nigeria tagged, #Endbadgovernance was the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
In 2021, Kanu was arrested and have been detained by the Nigerian government despite a heightened call by Nigerian lawmakers and political leaders for his release.
