Leading contender in the election to the post of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Chris Asoluka, has quit the race, citing the anomalies in the electoral process as reason.
In a statement late on Saturday, Asoluka decried the inability of the National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to address the anomalies in the handling of the electoral process which he had pointed out earlier, precisely on Friday.
He said that he had hoped that the NEC of the organisation would have summoned the will to address the issues but it failed, thus making his withdrawal from the election inevitable.
“It is now obvious that either NEC does not possess the will to rescue our dear Ohanaeze or it is complicit.

“I hereby notify all of my decision not to participate any further,” Asoluka added.
The statement reads: “Recall that in my release of 8/1/2021, I pointed out certain anomalies in the handling of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo 2021 election process with hope that NEC would intervene to summon emergency Imeobi to redeem the situation.
“It is now obvious that either NEC does not possess the will to rescue our dear Ohanaeze or it is complicit. I hereby notify all of my decision not to participate any further.
“I thank Ndigbo and my supporters while reassuring all of my sincere appreciation for the love, goodwill, time and support”.
It would be recall that Asoluka has had on Friday raised the alarm on the drama going on in the name of the electoral process, insisting that for the poll to be transparent, credible, free and fair, he aligned himself to the call by eminent leaders of Ndigbo under the aegis of Concerned Members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for the postponement of the exercise for two months.
He also threw his weight behind the demand by the Concerned Members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for the convening of an immediate Imeobi meeting via Zoom to review the request for postponement of the elections for two months.
