The Abia South Senatorial zone of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has risen from their meeting at Obingwa with the endorsement of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as their candidate in the 2019 governorship election and forbidden any of their sons and daughters from running as Deputy to candidates of other political parties.
The endorsement followed a motion moved by Dr Solomon Ogunji, the National Ex-Officio member of the Peoples Democratic Party and supported by representative of the six Local Government Areas that made up the Abia South including; Victor Ubani- Aba North, Obioma Ekpen-Aba South, Godwin Nna-Obingwa, Chibuzo Nwachukwu -Ugwunagbo, Emeka Stanley- Ukwa East and Sam Nwogu-Ukwa West.
According to them, the Governor has done so well in the past three years that there is no need shopping for a replacement.
They called on Ukwa Ngwa sons nursing the idea of contesting against the Governor to jettison the idea.
Responding, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu thanked his kinsmen for acknowledging the modest achievements his administration has made despite two years of distraction.
Dr. Ikpeazu noted that nobody has contested governorship seat and stays in court for two years, but him, and stated that in spite of the long legal battle he underwent, his administration was able to achieve much in less than three years.
He pointed some of the deteriorated roads his administration has fixed ,most of which done with cement pavement technology and the ongoing ones in Port Harcourt road, Faulks in Aba as well as Aba road in Umuahia among others.
The Governor expressed happiness that those roads he has fixed have stood the test of time and assured Abia people of his determination to do more.
He also said the efforts of his administration have changed the narrative of the Aba shoemakers as their products are now being recognized beyond the shores of African sub region.
Earlier, the convener of the meeting and Abia South PDP Zonal Chairman, Chief David Chigbu said the PDP members in Abia south are happy with the giant strides of the administration and decided to pay him homage in his hometown.
He said they have reviewed all his activities and decided to continue to throw their weight behind him assuring that he would complete his eight years tenure as the Governor of the State.
In separate speeches, Chief Acho Nwakanma, Hon. Tony Mezie Nwaubani, Mr. Hanson Amaechi, Mrs. Stella Igbokwe and Godwin Nna among others all supported the endorsement of Governor Ikpeazu in view of his unprecedented record of achievements in office, reaffirming that no indigene of the zone would accept Deputy Governorship position or contest against Dr. Ikpeazu in 2019.
They appealed to members of the party to ensure that their voters’ cards are available.
