Uproar as flood drowns man, mother of 6 in Anambra

The body of a woman who was identified as Mrs. Oluchi Nwafor and an unidentified man suspected to be drowned in flood were discovered in early hours of Sunay at Oduke Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesman in the state, Haruna Mohammed, SP, said the victims were unconscious when the police team attached to Obosi Division picked them and rushed them to hospital where they were confirmed dead.

He said the late Mrs. Nwafor was a staff of First Bank Ochanga branch, Onitsha, noting that effort is ongoing to establish the identity of the man.

“Police rushed the victims to Unity Hospital Obosi. They were certified dead on arrival by a medical Doctor and corpses photographed and deposited at St. Edward morgue for autopsy.

“However, preliminary investigation revealed that victims were suspected to have been drowned and carried away by heavy downpour on the 3/11/2018 at about 6:30pm from the area heavily ravaged by flood/erosion as a result of the downpour within the same locality.

“Meanwhile, the female body was later identified as Mrs. Oluchi Nwafor ‘f’, Staff of First Bank Ochanja branch, Onitsha while effort is ongoing to acertain the identity of the unidentified man.

“Police Patrol teams have been deployed to the affected areas to save lives and prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation. Case under investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Garba Baba Umar, implores the public to stay away from the flood ravaged areas and take safety precautions in order not to fall victims of similar ugly incident,” Haruna added.
