Its time for truce to heal the wounds in Rivers, ex militants tell warring factions

Following the unending crisis that trailed the re-run elections in Rivers State, a group of repentant militants under the aegis of Niger Delta Coalition (NDC), has called for a total reconciliation in the state and the entire Niger Delta region.
The group described the killing trends in Rivers as a threat to true development, adding that it has discovered that peace, is the only true way to progress and justice.
In a statement in Abuja, Coordinator of the group, Comrade Presh Young, called on all the interest parties to address “the bad system with love, rather than hate.”
His words: “it is time for peace and total reconciliation for the birth of a new River State and Niger Delta at large. It is time for the healing of the wounds, we know we cannot achieve success with hate, we know we cannot achieve true change by working alone.
“To the people of Rivers State, to our brothers in the struggle, to those that have lost their loved ones during this period in Rivers, to those willing to revenge, to the masterminds of the killings and conflicts, to the sponsors of evil in Rivers and to Rivers government, it is time for peace.
“We need to understand that we must attack the bad system with love, rather than hate, and this is the reason we say from time to time that the struggle is not to kill ourselves and cause tension in the polity, the struggle is rather between justice and injustice, between love and hate, between the forces of light and the forces of darkness”, he stressed.
The former agitators, while commending President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership and politics style, made reference to their encounter with the president even before the general elections where he preached peace and total reconciliation.
“Mr. President emphasised the need for peace and security. After the meeting with him, we saw more reasons to key into his change agenda, with all the threat on our lives and that of our men by some leaders in the Niger Delta during the elections, we still move on by putting our lives and that of our families in line to ensure victory for President Buhari”, it added.
