Shettima probes alleged child prostitution, sodomy in Maiduguri prison

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state will today inaugurate an investigative panel to look into a detailed report by an online medium, alleging cases of child prostitution, sodomy and forced abortion at the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison.
Shettima, who announced this on his Twitter handle, said the panel is to be chaired by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Kaka Shehu Lawan, while the permanent secretary, ministry of women affairs and social development is to serve as secretary.
Shettima’s tweet using his verified handle, said “I just came across this disturbing story by an online medium. I am immediately setting up a committee under the chairmanship of the attorney-general and commissioner for justice alongside some key officials to visit the prisons, meet officials, investigate and report to me as soon as possible.
“Members of the committee are: K. S. Lawan, Hauwa Mai-Musa, Mohammed Umaru, chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Chairperson, Federation of International Women Lawyers, FIDA, Amina Mustafa Ibrahim, representative of the police, representative of the DSS, representative of comptroller, prisons and Jummai Usman Mshelia, state Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission, (NHRC),” he said.
