Senator Abe insists next Gov must come from Rivers South East

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe on Friday declared that there would be no peace if the next governor of the state does not emerge from his senatorial district.

The senator who is also a governorship aspirant for the 2019 general elections in the state, said that his statement was predicated on the fact that Rivers South East was over due to produce the next governor, adding that there would be no peace without justice.

Senator Abe, who spoke at the official unveiling of a factional APC state secretariat on Friday, stated that “there can be no peace without justice.

There will be no justice without peace. For there to be peace in Rivers state, the next governor of the state must come from Rivers South East Senatorial District”.

Furthermore, Senator Abe said that the new secretariat represented the authentic body of the state executive recognized by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

“The executive that will operate from this secretariat is the one that the court asked to remain when the court nullified the ward, local government, and state congresses. This executive represents the status quo ordered by the court.

“This executive was put together by members of the party. This is the only executive without legal impediments and it is open to everybody.

You don’t need to preach hate to come in here. You don’t have to hate Abe to come here. You don’t have to antagonize our leader, Amaechi, to come here. As far as you support Buhari, Oshiomhole, and believe in APC, the secretariat is open to all APC members,” he added.

Speaking in support of the direct primary option approved by the APC’s NWC to select elective candidates for the 2018 general elections, Abe pointed out that the APC’s candidate for the 2019 governorship election would be elected by the members of the party.

“We are being hunted for our ambition. We should come together. We need an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect. Majority of party members will elect who will be our governorship candidate,” the senator said.

Declaring the secretariat open, Senator Wilson Ake, formerly representing Rivers West in the Senate, an ally of Senator Abe, said that some of them left the Peoples Democratic Party because of alleged oppression, lawlessness, and intimidation and advised the new state executive not to let it happen in the party.
