Quality education will yield higher productivity Lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Taofeek Adaranijo, has stressed the need for quality education to increase the nation’s productivity.

Speaking at the 2017 Awards and Honours Ceremony of Education District 1 in Lagos at the weekend, the lawmaker said that the country is currently at cross roads because people have failed to carry out their duties as expected of them.

According him, developed countries achieved greatness because the potentials of their education sector was well harnessed.

He said, “The sector you cover is a very important one in the growth and development of any nation. Without education all the developed countries we so much cherish and talk about would not have been where they are presently, but they are there now thanks to the foundation they have laid for themselves.

“Because education is the source of knowledge, without knowledge you cannot build anything, without it you cannot develop anything. Without education you cannot discover anything, without it we humans would not be different from animals. Without it we could not have known our creator.”

In her welcome address, the Tutor General Permanent Secretary, Lagos Education District 1, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufolayimika Ayandele, said the 11th edition of the awards ceremony was to honour the 5000 strong work force who contributed to the massive achievement recorded by the district in the last one year.

“The array of resourceful principals, dedicated teachers and support staff and over 3,000 diligent and hardworking students are here again to be rewarded and further motivated for better performance. Today’s ceremony is designed to honour those who have distinguished themselves through meticulous screening process and were adjudged to have made their marks in various cadres.

“The improvement of Our WASSCE result from 39 percent to 71 percent is a clear attestation that our public schools are good for our children to attend and perform excellently under the watch of our professionally qualified and competent workforce,” she said.
