Outsourcing adds $300m to Nigeria’s economy yearly, says iSON BPO.

CONTRARY to perceptions in different quarters that outsourcing takes away jobs and throws many people back into the labour market, there are revelations that, instead, it creates job opportunities as much as it adds up to $300 million to the Nigerian economy yearly.

The revelation was made by Chief Marketing Officer of iSON BPO, Mrs Opemipo Alebiosu during a tour of the company’s ultra-modern call centre facility in Abeokuta, Ogun state recently. Alebiosu contended that instead of being considered a curse, outsourcing is a blessing to Nigeria, considering that it adds over $300 million into the economy yearly.

She also added that besides the revenue it generates to the Nigerian government it contributes largely to shrinking the country’s labour market with the volumes of employments it makes yearly. According to her, iSON has over 3000 staffers of which over 99 percent are Nigerians.

This is in addition to transferring technologies that have developed other economies to Nigeria with a lot of Nigerian youths trained to master those technologies.

iSON Group is a leading IT company that services Telecom Service Providers, Media, Banking and Financial services and Insurance (BFSI), Government, Retail, Oil, and Gas and Aviation.

The Group operates through 3 main subsidiaries — iSON BPO, which provides outsourcing services specifically in customer service experience management; iSON Technologies, the systems integrator arm, and iSON Innovation and Investment, a recent initiative launched by the Group to drive consumer internet business in Africa.

With a presence in 29 countries spanning four continents of Africa, ASIA, and the Middle East, iSON Group claims to be a market leader in its area of operations. Opemipo, who conducted newsmen round the facility revealed that the company handles the call centre customer services of major Nigerian telecom operators including MTN, Airtel and Etisalat to ensure efficient management of customer services.

Apart from the cost-effective outsourcing solutions it offers  to clients, iSON  BPO is also focused on employee training and capability development, which means that they train & develop their staff to world-class standards and also provide excellent working culture.

“With these facilities, we are able to employ over 3,000 people, of which 99% are Nigerians. As a matter of fact, iSON BPO is one of the few companies that do not outsource local work outside of Africa. This, in turn, makes us one of the highest employment generating establishments in the country.

Our strategy is to transfer technology developed in other climes into Nigeria.

We do up scaling of skills and provide massive job to Nigerians because we value Nigeria. Instead of citing our call centres in other countries we cite them in Nigeria and bring in expatriates who would train our people. That way, we upscale skill and create employment” she added. The company is also gender sensitive, giving 48 percent of its workforce to women while the men retain 52.
