Okorocha assures oil producing areas monarchs of sustainable peace

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has assured traditional rulers from the oil producing areas of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta areas of the state that his administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that peace is achieved in their areas .The ex-militants from the oil producing areas of the state last Friday renounced their activities and surendered their weapons to the state government.

The traditional rulers from the affected áreas in a communique at the weekend in Owerri, the state capital commended the state governor by granting pardon to the repented militants from their areas and sustentance of peace.

 

Okorocha who assured the Monarchs that his government would do all that is needed to be done to sustain the peace already achieved in their areas, noting that the pardon granted to them on the spot  showed that peace in the oil producing areas of the state is paramount to his administration.

 

Daily Times recalls that Ohaji/Egbema Council of Traditional Rulers had met on Friday, September 16, 2016, to review the exercise of surrendering weapons by the militants and the pardon the governor granted to them and at the end of the meeting attended by 11 traditional rulers from the affected áreas issued a communiqué pleading the governor to ensure that the federal government granted amnesty to the ex-militants

The traditional rulers also commended their youths for accepting and embracing peace and urged the youths to sustain the peace already achieved through the exercise.

The Monarchs  however appealed to the State government to also take cognizance of all the  displaced people who  have suffered as a result of violence and restiveness and  pledged their  total support to the state government in its effort to ensure that the people of the oil producing areas in the state sleep with their two eyes closed.

 

 

The governor had told earlier the  militans from  Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta areas who honoured his invitation to drop their guns and embrace peace, that he would take every necessary step to ensure that the president grants them amnesty.
