Ogun seeks multinationals’ support in sports development

The Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, has called on multinational organisations to join hands with government in the development of sports in the State.

Afuape made this known while declaring open the Quarter Final match of Season 5 of GTBank/ Ogun State Principal Cup, held at MKO International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

He said the aim of organizing the competition was to discover new talents at their tender age and groom them to be international stars in the nearest future, calling on all major stakeholders and Multinational Companies to emulate the initiative of Gtbank Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at developing sports in the country.

The Commissioner revealed that some talents discovered in season 1 to 4 of the competition are currently playing for under 17 National Football Team.

“The best way to develop sport in the country is for Multinational Companies to collaborate with government at all levels, to discover raw talents. I want to tell you categorically that some of the talented ones discovered during the season 1 to 4 of the GTBank/ Ogun State Principal Cup competitions are currently in under 17 National team,’’ he said.

At the end of the quarter final matches in the female category, Iganmode Grammar School, Ota, lost to Iko Gateway Grammar School, Idiroko by two goals to four, Our lady of Apostles, Ijebu Ode, beat Anthony Grammar School Esuru by two goals to nill, Makun High School Sagamu, beat Isara Secondary School by three goals to zero, while Nawar- ud- deen High School Isolu, defeated Muslim High School, Isolu by two goals to one.

In the male category, Ijebu Ife Community High School lost to Ijebu Ode Grammar School by a goal to two, Anglican High School defeated Itolu Community High School by four goals to one, Pakoto Community High School beat Egba Owode High School by two goals to nil, while Ipara Comprehensive Grammar School, Ipara defeated Methodist Comprehensive Grammar School Sagamu by four goals to three through penalty shootout.
