In furtherance of the commitment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai to promote personnel welfare, the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army on Thursday updated and inaugurated the Electronic Nigerian Army Pay System (e-NAPS).
Inaugurating the e-NAPS at the 81 Division Army Officers Mess in Victoria Island, Lagos, the COAS noted that the payment system is primarily meant to ease the timely payment of salaries of officers and soldiers.
Buratai who was represented by General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. Enobong Udoh said e-NAPS was also necessary for database accuracy.
He said, “It would be recalled that the e-NAPS database update for the Nigerian Army was flagged off during the COAS First Quarter Conference in Abuja where all the Division’s were charged to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise.
” The Nigerian Army Biometric Enrolment Exercise (NABEE) provides Nigerian Army personnel data for Electronic Nigerian Army Pay System (e-NAPS) for the administration of pay and allowances.
” The e-NAPS have greatly enhanced salary administration in the Nigerian Army by providing adequate, timing and accurate information for payment administration.
“Furthermore, the e-NAPS has facilitated planning, budgeting and personnel management in the Nigerian Army as it is on-line, real time.
” The Nigerian Army Finance Corps has continued to strive to maintain robust biometric database for the e-NAPS and to safeguard its integrity. Safeguarding the integrity of the database calls for update from time to time to ensure that the database is up to date, accurate, reliable and secure, ” he maintained.
Buratai maintained that the e-NAPS could not have come at a better time than now.
He also disclosed that the e-NAPS has laid the foundation for the Army to migrate to the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in the nearest future.
“The e-NAPS update cannot come at a better time than now when the NA is preparing for migration to the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in compliance with the FGN directives.
“The IPPIS being a platform for the central administration of salary for all FGN employees. The e-NAPS update will therefore facilitate the uploading of accurate and reliable data to IPPIS platform.”
In his words of advice to personnel, the COAS said the exercise should be taken seriously, adding that it would give direct impact on their emolument.
“failure to update may result in nonpayment of salaries as such personnel would be deemed nonexistent and the name deleted from database,” he warned.
