The National Cooperative Insurance of Nigeria (NCIS) has urged its members to go about their lawful businesses, using their authentic NCIS motor third party insurance.
Briefing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Adetokunbo Adesanya, a director at the NCIS, called on motorists to refer, police, VIO and Road safety to the necessary NCIS portal when accosted for motor insurance.
Adesanya said: “We are asking our members to go about their lawful businesses, using their vehicles with authentic NCIS motor third party insurance, and to be kind enough to politely refer stakeholders – police, Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) and Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) personnel – when accosted for motor insurance, to the portal.
“Refer them to the necessary NCIS portal, whether it is the USSD or the Google search or whatever one that is possible as at the time for verification.”
He also urged stakeholders –police, VIOs and FRSC personnel – not to go to verify NCIS motor insurance certificates on the platform of Nigerian Insurance Industry Database (NIID). “We don’t belong there. We are cooperative. Ours is cooperative motor insurance and not commercial motor third party insurance,” he said.
On the validity of the certificates, he said: “Once it is on the NCIS portal, it is valid, and if there is a claim, in no time, we will settle the claim. That is why we are in business. That is why we are in existence. The essence of cooperative insurance will be defeated if the needs of members are not met.”

Core commander, Adetunji Oke of the Motor Vehicle Administration, Federal Safety Corps Headquarters, Abuja, said: “FRSC is always for the safety of lives and property along the nation’s highway, and that is one of the reasons we always support any insurance company that promotes the use of third party motor insurance for our various operations.
“All motorists must key into the NCIS insurance policy. I have personally verified. I’ve been seeing it. They’ve been visiting the office for the past two, three months, I think, right from last year. And we’ll give them all the necessary support when it comes to using their insurance policy. It is already in the FRSC portal, and we will make sure they succeed.”
