The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu and his renewed hope agenda.
Speaking yesterday, in Abuja during the APC FCT Unity Rally, Maikalangu said his defection was driven by a desire to align AMAC with the center of power and unlock greater developmental opportunities for the people.
He assured residents that his decision to join the APC would not affect his commitment to inclusive governance, promising to remain accessible, accountable, and focused on delivering people-oriented projects across all communities in AMAC.
Maikalangu however, assured his supporters that he won’t abandon them as a result of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Today marks a defining moment in my political journey. I stand before you not just as your Chairman, but as your servant-leader who remains committed to the progress, peace, and prosperity of our great Area Council.
“After careful consultations with stakeholders, community leaders, youths and women groups, and the good people of AMAC, I have made the decision to officially join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Let me be clear this move is not about personal ambition. It is about aligning AMAC with the center of power so that we can unlock greater opportunities for our people. It is about ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of our communities-from Nyanya to Karshi, from Karu to Jikwoyi, from Garki to Wuse.
“Since the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the appointment of Barrister Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister, we have seen renewed hope in action. Roads are being built, infrastructure is expanding, security is improving, and lives are being touched.
“We have already felt the positive impact in AMAC through federal appointments given to sons and daughters of the FCT and through projects championed by the Tinubu-led administration.
“In the same vein, in the history of democracy in Nigeria, this is the first time the good people of FCT are been recognized in the Federal Executive Council, by the appointment of a worthy son of the soil Hon. Dr. Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo, as the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs.
“In addition, please permit me to appreciate Mr President for equally approving the appointment of FCT indigene as the FCT Head of Civil Service, and also the establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Gwarimpa.
“To our political family, let me assure you this is not a goodbye. I am still the same Maikalangu you know. I remain accessible, accountable, and committed to inclusive governance. My administration will continue to deliver people-oriented projects, empower our youth and women, and strengthen grassroots democracy.

“Let us work together, not as members of different parties, but as people united in the pursuit of a better future for AMAC. With this move, I believe we are positioning ourselves to attract more federal support, development programs, and infrastructure that will uplift our communities.
“In closing, I want to thank President Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman of our great party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Working Committee of our great party, the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, my own state Chairman FCT, Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman, the AMAC Party Chairman, my Ward Chairman, and all our party excos, for their support and vision for Abuja.
“I pledge my loyalty to the APC family and reaffirm my commitment to always put the people of AMAC first. Let’s move forward together. The best days of AMAC are ahead of us.”
While welcoming Maikalangu to the ruling party, the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje, said the good works of President Bola Tinubu has made all the area councils in the FCT to embrace APC.
He revealed Maikalangu took the best decision by joining the ruling party, even as he urged AMAC residents to continue supporting the Chairman of AMAC.
