LABOUR: EKITI TO SANCTION TRUANTS, LATECOMERS

The Ekiti State government will sanction any public servant caught in acts of truancy and lateness to work in 2017.
Speaking on Wednesday while monitoring resumption of work after the yuletide holidays at the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Ado Ekiti, the State Head of Service, Dr. Olugbenga Faseluka stated that 2017 would not be business as usual for truants and late-comers as the government would not condone irresponsibility on the part of any worker who fails to perform their schedule of duties.
The Head of Service who reminded the SUBEB staff of the sensitive nature of their job as superintendents over primary education where the minds of children are moulded urged them to provide exemplary leadership that would reposition the 900 primary schools across the State for sound and qualitative education.
Dr. Faseluka who expressed displeasure with the nonchalant attitude of workers to work said punctuality at the SUBEB headquarters was abysmally low despite that the gate remained open until 8:30am.
Faseluka said workers need to justify government’s investment in the Public Service especially the recent promotion of more than 15,000 workers despite the paucity of funds.
He urged them to change their attitude to work and support government to deliver on its programme in providing qualitative education for young people who are the future of the State.
While disclosing that Directors would henceforth be vicariously held responsible for the misdeed of their subordinate officers, the Head of Service urged the management of the Board to ensure equity in the distribution of teachers between urban and rural areas.
Faseluka added that the monitoring exercise would be extended to rural areas in order to curb truancy and lateness to work.
