IGP Adamu seeks NURTW collaboration for hitch free election

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has appealed to the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to take the assignment given to them by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in the forthcoming general election very seriously. The INEC is collaborating with members of NURTW to ensure movement of some election materials for the February and March election are hitch free. IGP Adamu who received the National and all the 36 States branch Chairmen of the Union in Abuja on Friday on a courtesy visit, said that their involvement on the election duty also demand that they abide by the rules. “With your huge membership across the country the Union owned the country responsibility to also work to ensure security.” Adamu acknowledged that security challenges are here and there which must be addressed, and observes that any fight against crime which members of NURTW totally support the police are bound to be won. He enjoined them to report any crime during or after the election to the police. Earlier, while expressing his views, the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin said the Union had resolved to collaborate with police to fight crime in the country. He said although the enormity of the task before IGP is huge, and the union is confident that the new IGP has the capacity to deal with it and to protect all citizens. Alhaji Yasin said that the Union will continue to assist the police with useful information that would help curb crime in the society. On election duty, the President of NURTW said that the union have performed election duties credibly in the past and he assured that it surpass its records this time around. “We did it in 2015 general elections and we are set to assist INEC,” he concluded.
