Heritage Bank’s ‘Corner Shops’ hit 400 agents

In an effort to improve access to financial services for some of Nigeria’s most hardworking but economically isolated people, Heritage Bank has now got 400 banking agents operating across the country.
Following on from calls made by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Heritage Bank created its ‘Corner Shop’ initiative to bring more financial services to more people.
At the weekend Heritage Bank grow its mobile banking agents to 400, with the installation of Mowo local Thy Grace who will operate in the Badagry Local Government area.
Heritage Bank CEO Ifie Sekibo said the idea behind the inclusive program was to provide a better standard of service for small market traders, artisans and micro business operators across Nigeria.
He said this initiative would give more people, especially those living in rural and hard to reach communities, the ability to not only get a bank account but also enjoy financial services without having to trek it to the nearest bank branch.
The head of Heritage Bank’s Agent Banking in South-West and South-South areas, Oluwakemi Adewunmi, said the bank’s latest agent would be a major “breakthrough” for the Ikogazebbe community.
She said the agent would be able to cater for all bank customers by offering an array of financial services that most people would have to go to a bank for.
“The level of their loyalty is very high and commendable,” she said.
“Our agents maintain a clean record and they have been effective.”
It’s understood that if locals living in the Ikogazebbe community needed to go to the bank, they would not only have to travel 15km into Badagry but also pay N400 to get there and back.
Through technological advances and the creative thinking of Heritage Bank, more underprivileged Nigerians will be able to bank with ease.
