The European Union (EU) has launched a €300,000 grant to support the institutional development of Eurocham Nigeria, aiming to enhance trade and investment opportunities, strengthen advocacy, and expand external engagement for its members.

The three-year grant is part of the EU’s commitment to reinforcing Eurocham’s role in policy dialogue and fostering a favourable business environment through strategic collaboration with local governments, policymakers, and key stakeholders.

Speaking at Eurocham Nigeria’s 25th Annual Stakeholders Conference in Lagos, EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, described the initiative as a significant step in deepening EU-Nigeria trade relations. He noted that the funding would bolster Eurocham’s secretariat, improve its administrative capacity, and expand its advocacy efforts.

“By building on past achievements, we open doors for greater opportunities in trade, investment, and infrastructure development,” Mignot said. “The EU remains Nigeria’s largest trading partner and a key source of foreign direct investment and development financing.”

Mignot also highlighted the EU’s broader commitment under the Global Gateway Strategy, a four-year programme supporting infrastructure projects across Africa, including Nigeria. He cited key initiatives such as the Omi Eko water transportation project, digital infrastructure expansion, and investments in agriculture, renewable energy, and local vaccine manufacturing.

He emphasised Eurocham’s critical role in identifying investment opportunities, aggregating investors, and advocating for policies that support a thriving business environment in Nigeria.
