Estate Agent remanded over alleged fraud

An estate agent, Alhaji Ola Alani Tijani has been remanded in prison custody by a Lagos State High court sitting in Ikeja for allegedly defrauding one Mr. Chimanda Onyemachi, the sum of N50 million for the payment of a plot of land.
Alhaji Tijani was also accused of issuing dud cheques to Onyemachi in the said sum as refund of payment for a plot of land supposedly to be acquired for him in Agbado and Badagry area of Lagos state.
The defendant who was arraigned before Justice Oyefeso on a 10- count charge however pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
According to the prosecuting counsel Mrs. Vivian Aigeadon, the defendant allegedlly committed the offence sometimes in 2010-2014 at No. 1 Aina Aladi Street off Raypower road, Alagbado.
He was also accused of issuing a dud UBA bank cheques to pay Onyemachi in streams.
Mrs. Aigeadon also sought the order of the court to remand the defendant who had been on administrative bail.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr. John Ogunniyi however, urged the court to grant his client bail having filed an application for his bail before the court.
The prosecution objected to the defence counsel’s plea.
In a short ruling, the presiding judge adjourned the matter till 26th January, 2017 to hear the summons for bail.
