Environmental sanitation: Kogi to reintroduce sanitary inspectors

Determined to ensure clean and healthy environment, the Kogi State government plans to contract the services of sanitary inspectors.
Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resource, Mrs. Rosemary Oshikoya, disclosed this to journalists while monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation exercise over the weekend.

Oshikoya, who expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance with monthly exercise, noted that there is still need to sensitise the people on the cleaniness of their residences and srroundings pointing out that basic household necessities like toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and bins are lacking in many homes.

She said that the state government was already consulting its private partners to work out modalities for the project pointing out that when fully operational,every house in the state would be inspected at least once in three months.
According to the Commissioner the purpose of re introducing the services of the sanitary inspectors was to ensure full compliance with governments objective of keeping the state clean and free from diseases.

“Mountains” of refuse some of which were said to have lasted for over 20 years with in Lokoja the state capital as well as others scattered all over the state have been cleared the new concept of refuse collection and dispossal has been introduced by the ministry, she said.
Meanwhile, the mobile court attached to the sanitation exercise has convicted 24 people for violating the monthly sanitation exercise.
They were arrested while loitering around the Ganaja junction which served as epicenter for the monitoring exercise.
