Eight farmers shot, hacked to death by herders in Taraba – Security source say

Eight farmers in Chinku community, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, near Benue border have either been shot or hacked to death by Fulani herders, a security source attached to Operation Hadin Kai, has said.
The military source said the prime target of the killer herdsmen were farmers as they went straight to farmlands shooting and macheting farmers working on their farmlands.
“As a result, eight farmers were killed before security operatives mobilised to the scene”, he said.
He continued: “Troops later recovered the bodies of the victims, who were identified as Jonathan Ordonga, Joseph Torsev Yagba, Aondolumun Torsev Yagba, Torkulugh Apirgwa, Orfega Atuku, Orshoja Kuramga, Tersugh Mbaaiiga, and Shater Buchi.
“All the victims were of Tiv ethnicity and were either shot or hacked to death. Their remains were taken to Iorna Clinic in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, where they were confirmed dead and handed over to their families for burial.

“Security authorities have summoned the Ardo of the Fulani community in Chinku to an emergency meeting at the Wukari Local Government Secretariat.
“He was urged to cooperate in identifying those responsible for the attack and to caution his community members against further violence”, he said.
