Driver, 3 others die in crash in Delta

A ghastly motor accident involving a Delta Line bus and another vehicle along the Aboh -Ogwashi Uku Road in Delta state the early hours of Tuesday, claimed the lives of the driver and three passengers while many others were said to have sustained injuries.

It was gathered that the driver of the Delta Line bus died on the spot while the three passengers died on their way to the hospital.

Sources said the crash occurred because the bus driver who was allegedly on high speed attempted to overtake another vehicle, but lost control of the bus which then veered into the bush where it somersaulted several times.

An eyewitness, Mabel Soroh, who spoke to journalists said the bus crashed as a result of over –speeding, adding that “in fact, we all were just standing by the road and saw the way and manner the bus driver was on top speed while trying to overtake another vehicle.

“He failed in his attempt and crashed into the bush somersaulting several times. He died on the spot while three other persons died on their way to the hospital.”

It was further gathered that NYSC member who was sitting behind the driver sustained injuries, but did not die is presently receiving treatment at the Aboh General Hospital while other passengers who sustained injuries were taken to an undisclosed hospital.

Acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Chucks Orisewezie, who confirmed the accident said the corpse of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba while investigation into the accident was ongoing.
