Democracy Day: Kwara traditional rulers applaud Nigeria’s achievements
Traditional rulers from Kwara South Senatorial District on Monday said the country made substantial progress in the last two years of its democratic governance.
The traditional rulers made this known in their separate messages to mark the Democracy Day in their palaces in Omu-Aran, Egosi and Rore.
The traditional rulers are the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Charles Ibitoye, Elegosi of Egosi, Oba Daniel Dada and Onirore of Rore, Oba Ezekiel Oyewole.
Ibitoye of Omu-Arab community said that the nation’s achievements through sustainable democratic transition could not be over emphasised.
According to him, the country’s achievement through peaceful democratic transition over the years deserved a lot of commendation.
“We give glory to God because the 2015 general election remains a good testimony of our resolve and preference for genuine democratic rule.
“This alone has showcased our prowess and potentiality as a giant among our peers.
“It is my sincere prayers that the next democratic transition in 2019 will be a lot more transparent, fairer, better and one that will impact positively on the nation’s socio-economic development,” Ibitoye said.
On his part, Dada of Egosi community, said the nation had gained a lot through sustainable democratic rule in the areas of security, sports, health, education and human capital development.
He urged the government and the governed to strive to utilise the gains recorded in the sustenance of the country’s democratic system to move the country forward.
Dada said that the gains recorded in the present administration’s anti-corruption crusade had boosted the country’s objectives toward achieving a developed economy.
He urged citizens to continue to support and offer prayers for leaders to excel in their enormous responsibility, saying, “I think there is need for us to reflect on our past achievements.’’
“The last election was a good pointer for us to collectively find solutions to the nation’s socio-economic challenges,” he said.
The monarch expressed optimism for a better democratic future for the nation through stakeholders’ collective efforts.
He equally urged politicians to close ranks for them have ample opportunity in fulfilling their electoral promises.
“The country no doubt is already on the path of socio-economic posterity; we only need to consolidate,” Dada said
Oyewole of Rore community, on its part urged the citizens to imbibe peace and tolerance in the spirit of the Democracy Day celebration.
He said that there was need for citizens to be their brothers’ keepers, adding that the nation’s socio-economic challenges were numerous but they would soon be a thing of the past with the collective efforts.
