Building collapses in Abuja, one week after incident at Banana Island, Lagos

Barely one week after the collapse of a seven-storey building in highbrow Banana Island, Lagos, the nation, was thrown into a frenzy following the collapse of a fence at a building site in Wuse 2 Abuja.
Daily Times gathered that no fewer than four persons were rescued alive from the rubble of the fence that collapsed at a construction site on Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse 2.
The incident was said to have occurred between the hours of 10 and 11 am when the UBA Bank fence beside the construction site collapsed on the workers on site.
The UBA Bank fence had become weak as a result of the deep excavations at the construction site.
Addressing the media after the rescue operations, the Director General, of FCT Emergency Management Agency-FEMA, Dr Abbas Idriss, thanked all the rescue workers as well as the media, Security and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support during the rescue exercise.
He also called on developers to always obey the building codes and to consult as they excavate to safeguard lives and properties.

He also appealed to the relevant SDAs to apply sanctions where possible to serve as deterrent to others.
“Two persons were however fatally injured from the incident, while four are receiving treatment at a health facility in Abuja.
“Personnel of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency, FCT Police Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal and FCT Fire Service, and Department of Development Control were part of the rescue teams at the site,” he said.
