Breaking News: Gunmen shoot AIT reporter in Bayelsa

A reporter with the Africa Independent Television (AIT), Miss Onisofie Owei, was attacked on Friday by unknown gunmen and shot at close range after dispossessing her of her mobile phone and valuables along the Edepie area of Yenagoa,the Bayelsa State capital.
Miss Owei, who is the AIT Correspondent attached to the State Government House, was attacked at about 10.30pm on Friday while returning home from a church service.
The Daily Times also gathered that armed men, suspected to be armed robbers, shot Owei at the back after collecting her phones, handbag and left her in the pool of her blood.
Some concerned colleagues and members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), after a visit to the State Government House hospital, where she is receiving treatment, confirmed that she is in a critical condition and could not talk.
Meanwhile, residents of Nikton Road, Samphino, Okaka and Captain Ayeni Road, now lives in fears as armed youths launch several attacks at different locations.
Bars and social event venues in the state capital are usually closed at about 6pm to avoid been attacked by hoodlums who moved in a gang of about 20 with dangerous weapons.
Also on Tuesday another member of a popular Pentecostal church escaped being killed by some armed youths along Yenizuegene area of Yenagoa. She was reported to have locked herself in her car and refused to come down when ordered by the gunmen.
The spokesman of the State Police Command, Asimin Butwat, confirmed the development and said assured that investigation into the incident would commence immediately.
