Birmingham chase Onyekuru, as Azuka shines in Kazakhstan
Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru has yet another potential suitor, with news that Championship side Birmingham City are chasing his signature. According to the Daily Mail, Birmingham are prepared to break their club record transfer fee to sign the player from Belgian side KES Eupen.
A fee of £7.5-million has been mooted, which would easily break the Blues’ previous record of £6-million paid to Valencia to sign Nikola Zigic in 2010.
Onyekuru enjoyed a superb season for Eupen and has been marked as one of European football’s rising stars.
He has been courted by the likes of Arsenal and West Ham United, but remains on the market ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Meanwhile, out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Izu Azuka was on target in the 16th round of matches in the Kazakhstan Premier League on Sunday.
Okzhetpes Kokshetau defeated Akzhaiyk Uralsk 2-1, with the Nigerian netting the only goal for his team from the penalty spot in the 58th minute.
The 28-year-old had not scored in the league since his brace against Shakhter Karagandy on match day two, prior to Sunday’s meeting at Astana Arena.
Azuka appeared for Kazakhstan clubs Irtysh Pavlodar and FC Taraz before his transfer to Akzhaiyk Uralsk in 2017.
On his curriculum vitae, the striker has also represented clubs in Algeria, Libya, Tunisia and Turkey.
