Benue suspends 3 monarchs over communal crisis

The Benue state expanded security council meeting has ended in Makurdi, with the suspension of three traditional rulers over their alleged involvement in communal crisis.
Governor Samuel Ortom, who read the council’s decision after the meeting on Monday, said the kindred head of Utange council ward in Ushongo Local Government Area was suspended over insubordination.
According to the governor, the council also suspended the District Head of Shough, Chief Peter Kyum and that of Mbasombo, Chief Angegh Kuhe for their alleged involvement in the communal crisis in Gwer East Local Government Area of the state.
The council according to the governor, has set up an investigation panel to probe into their level of involvement and made recommendations to the council for further action.
He said an elderly person who was in the habit of sponsoring some criminal activities in Gwer West local Government Area has been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The council according to governor Ortom has appointed the Tor Kwande, Chief Ambrose Iortyer, that of Jechira, Clement Uganden and his Lobi counterpart, Chief Anageende among others to turn in their findings on the Gwer East crisis.
The council warned criminal elements sponsoring communal crisis in Tyu-Mu in Makurdi Local Government Area between Ihyrev and Kparev to desist or face punitive government measures while the political leaders were urged to wade into the Ukum/Katsina -Ala conflict for peace to reign.
