Anglican Church seeks end to Fulani herdsmen killings, destruction of farm lands

The Ika Anglican Communion Church of Nigeria has urged the federal government to put an end to the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Delta state, especially their alleged killings of persons, and destruction of farm lands.
President, Mothers Union and Women’s Guild of the church, Dame Mercy Yetunde Onekpe, lamented the continued attack on persons in the state, saying that herdsmen was another key source of fear across the country, particularly their alleged destruction of farm crops.
Dame Onekpe who spoke to journalists after delivering the 17th annual conference tagged ‘Pressing Towards the Goal,’ on Tuesday, however commended the federal government on its efforts in fighting corruption, including stabilizing Nigeria’s economy.
While urging the federal government to utilize the money recovered from the exercise of fighting corruption to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians, Dame Onekpe also commended the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osibanjo for his relentless efforts to re-position Nigeria.
Regretting the stoppage of oil flow as a result of pipe line vandalization, Dame Onekpe said that the Fulani herdsmen allegedly harass their host residents, most times raped housewives in their farmlands, and blamed federal government on its slow pace decision to end the menace on the successes recorded by the Mothers’ Union and Women’s Guild, she disclosed that 36 room hostel project of 2007 to December 10, 2016, roofing a building raising of a supplementary budget of N5 million, were completed.
