Anambra declares state of emergency on roads

The Anambra state government has declared a state of emergency on all the dilapidated roads that had thwarted the economic activities, especially in the commercial areas, of the state.
This was stated during the Priests’ New Year get-together and Silver Jubilee celebration at Retreat Center, Okpuno, Anambra state.
Explaining the reason for the action, the state governor, Willie Obiano, said his administration had mapped out necessary logistics to embark on construction of 111 roads, cutting across the three senatorial zones.
Governor Obiano noted that the idea to embark on the roads this dry season was to ensure standard construction due to the influx of heavy vehicles plying the state roads.
The governor stressed that the state had employed 400 youths across the state to ensure zero tolerance to potholes, as well as another 400 to embark on the sweeping of the roads to maintain cleanliness of
Speaking on his achievements in education, Governor Obiano stated that over 33 teachers in the state had been sponsored by the state for a training in Singapore, in addition to welfare of teachers and renovation of school buildings in the state.
He noted that more teachers would soon be sponsored for another international training, alongside training and retraining that had been going on within the state.
Earlier in his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor described Governor Obiano as the lover of education who has invested tremendously to lift the standard of learning in the state.
Bishop Ezeokafor expressed gratitude to the governor for his contributions in building Paul University project, saying it would ameliorate the sufferings of many youths who had been frustrated by other conventional universities.
The Catholic prelate disclosed that the present administration had restored the confidence of people in governance which is in line with providing the people with the necessary amenities they cannot provide for themselves.
The Bishop noted that the present security Situation in the state had attracted meaningful investments and also recorded unprecedented mass return of people in the state.
He said that the agriculture policy initiated by the governor would consolidate the economy of the state and as well strengthen the state above the present economic crunch.
While urging priests and laities to key in agriculture, the bishop commended governor Obiano for his prompt payment of salaries and allowances provided for workers before Christmas celebration.
