Alleged Secret Training of Gay Boxers In Benin : Angry Mob Attacks Wife of Boxing Coach, Others

Pandemonium erupted in a remote community in Benin City when an angry mob attacked the family of Edo State youth boxing coach, Lucky Chinyere Oshanugor, a popular boxing coach in his residence in Benin City on January 16th 2024 as the angry mob left in the wake of the attack sad tales of woes for his family .
It will be recalled that on October 31st 2023, the family of the Edo State boxing coach was first attacked by the same angry mob led by Oseni Shaibu who, according information made available was secretly involved in homosexual practice with the coach several years until their secret relationship was said to have cooled off over irreconcilliable differences.
The violent mob attack on the family of Coach Chinyere Oshanugor which led to the angry mob unleashing terror on his wife and members of family was a deliberate attempt on his life as the angry youths were of the impression the coach who had been away in Canada with his boys for an international boxing tournament, had returned home .
It was said that the angry mob suspected strongly that coach Chinyere Osahugor was using boxing as a cover-up to recruit unsuspecting young boys into homosexual practice .
According to a source in the community who craved anonymity, Coach Chinyere Oshanugor had been secretly involved in a same-sex affair with one Oseni Shaibu in the past until the relationship ended acrimoniously as the coach was reported to have taken up a wife to raise a family.
Oseni Shaibu dissatisfied with the decision of the coach, according to information gathered, embarked on a campaign of calumny in order to bring the personality of the coach to disrepute and by also exposing him to serious security risk in the community saying he was secretly involved in the recruitment and training of young boys with sexual orientation naturally inclined to homosexual practice .
Moved by the disturbing and unverified claims by Oseni Shaibu, the angry mob stormed his residence on the fateful day in the community where they violently attacked his wife for refusing to disclose details about her husband’s whereabout and left with a broken leg and his children were also not spared during the dastardly attack by the mob.
A large pineapple, plantain farmland and other property including awards and laurels won from the 2023 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State by the coach were destroyed and burnt down as the angry mob chanted in loud voices saying “No To Gay Practice in our community , Coach Oshanugor, we are coming for you and your gay boys wherever you are “
Coach Lucky Chinyere Oshanugor and 5 other young boxers who include Mujeeb Yunusa ( team captain), Uhunoma Godwin, Iyalekhue Eguabor ,Shaibu Abudu and Kpulubu Kelvin, were said to have been the target of the January 16th 2024 violent attack by the angry mob of the community as they were of the impression he had returned from the tournament with the boys.
Meanwhile, the wife of coach Lucky Chinyere Oshanugor was said to have been receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed health facility and was unwilling to comment on the case over further increased threats to her life and her children.
Also, a statement by the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police stated that it was yet to receive any report on the case of mob attack by any group or individual on the family of the Edo State boxing coach adding that while the Same-sex Prohibition Act of 2014 prohibits gay practice in the country, efforts were underway to ensure that justice was served and offenders arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the law.
