Alleged forgery:  APC blasts Ekweremadu over letter to global community

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, for writing the international community over the alleged forgery trial against him and three others.

It would be recalled that Ekweremadu recently wrote the United Nations, European Union, Unites States Congress, United Kingdom and other world leaders intimating them of imminent danger to democracy in Nigeria and urged them to call President Muhammadu Buhari to order.

Briefing newsmen in Enugu on Sunday, the APC Chairman in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye said Ekweremadu’s action was uncalled for, adding that nobody is above the law.

He frowned at the manner the Senate treated the representative of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice during his appearance in the senate over the issue.

“The Attorney General respected the senate by sending a representative, they should have accorded him respect by listening to him.

“As people who make laws, the senators should subject themselves to the same law”, he said.

Nwoye wondered why the deputy senate president should take an internal matter of a sovereign nation to a foreign land.

“The action of the deputy senate president is aimed at impeding the judicial process as well as tarnish the image of the APC led government.

“How many indicted citizens of other foreign nations have ever written to Nigerian government to intervene Nigeria in their matter?

“Calling on UN to intervene on the forgery amounts to seeding our sovereignty to foreign nations. The CIA director and many US senators and government officials were over the years indicted and convicted, did they write to Nigeria.

“Some of the officials pleaded guilty and resigned and never wrote to any foreign countries including Nigeria. Those involved should face trial and stop invoking tribal, religious and ethnic sentiments.

“We want to advise those facing the forgery case to stop heating up the polity. After all, there are other Nigerians facing different trials bordering on rape, corruption etc and they have not written international countries for interventions.

“We don’t want a situation where the law of the land would be for a selected few,” Nwoye stated.
