To prevent unauthorized access into the sensitive areas of the airports across the country, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced automation of the restricted areas.
The action is aimed at preventing unauthorised persons from accessing the areas.
Capt. Usman Sadiq, Director, Security Services, FAAN who stated this recently at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos during an interview with aviation journalists, said this had helped to reduce touts and touting activities at the nation’s airports, stressing that the aim of the management was to eradicate touting within the industry.
He noted that agency would continue to take training of its personnel, especially the Aviation Security (AVSEC), with high priority it deserves.
The Authority said continuous training of AVSEC would ensure their compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.
Sadiq insisted that training and retraining of security personnel was key to forestalling unwarranted attacks in the industry, stressing that this would also improve their knowledge on the current terrorism threats around the world.
According to him, the training of AVSEC, which had already commenced, was being carried out in phases across the country.
He said all Avsec personnel would participate in the continous training programme to enhance their competences.
He said: “Training is very key, especially to the third world countries. Since I became
the Director of Security Services in FAAN that has been my priority; we have up our game on training”.
“The intention of the management is for everybody to be trained and retrained.”
“Also, aviation itself is capital intensive and there are so much to be done in terms of equipment and even manpower. So, we are trying to see areas we can build upon,” he added.
