Lalong reassures Yelwa community of peace, harmony

The Plateau State Governor, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, has reassured the Yelwa community of Shendam Local Government Area that his administration would continue to protect life and property in the area and the entire state at large, stressing that he would not relent on his effort to strengthen the existing peace and harmony being enjoyed in state.
According to him, if there was anywhere to start the gospel of peace in Plateau, it was Yelwa, because the area had experienced a series of crises in the past. He said, “We have demonstrated that peace is everything to us. As you can see in the first ten-months of this government, there is relative peace in the state and we will continue to sustain it.”
The governor gave the assurance at the weekend in Yelwa on an occasion organised by Yelwa Community Development Association (YCDA) in honour of its sons who were appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari and Lalong to serve in various offices.
Lalong, who was represented by the Director of Research and Documentation Government House, Professor John Wade, while appreciating the community for organising such occasion, said that such a gesture was highly commendable and saw it as a call to duty.
He said: “Fundamentally, thank you is very important. For a community to demonstrate this gesture to appreciate government for recognising their sons is highly commendable. We have listen to their complaints and by God’s grace in the course of this administration, those problems would be addressed. Our administration would not forget Yelwa, because the community wholeheartedly supported Lalong, especially during the challenging period.”
While appreciating what the government has done for to the community, an elder, Alh. Dan’asabe Muhammad Isa, hoped that the government would consider them more and more in the subsequent time, and commended the governor for his peace effort.
Chairman of YCDA, Hon. Yakubu Haruna, said the Yelwa community comprised of both Christians and Muslim and have agreed to live together. He said, “You can see for yourself how Christians and Muslims danced and celebrated together. Yelwa is very peaceful. We are calling, in a laud voice, on those who have fled the area to return”.
