The $30 million natural gas distribution facility at the Lagos Free Zone is nearing completion and is expected to commence operations by the second quarter of 2025, according to Optimera Energy LFZ Enterprise.
Optimera Energy, a consortium comprising Falcon Corporation Limited, FHN Gas Limited, and ND Western Midstream Limited, signed a 20-year Gas Infrastructure Development Agreement with the Lagos Free Zone Company to supply natural gas within the zone.
Managing Director of Falcon Corporation Limited, Prof. Joe Ezigbo, stated that the project has reached 90 per cent completion, with over $30 million invested so far. He highlighted its role in strengthening Nigeria’s gas supply network to support industrial growth and energy security.

“We expect to deliver ‘First Gas’ by Q2 2025, following the completion of front-end engineering design (FEED) and detailed engineering designs, alongside securing necessary permits and approvals,” Ezigbo said. He emphasised that the project draws on extensive industry experience and resources to ensure a stable energy supply.
The facility includes a 25MMScf/D City Gate Station, scalable to 100MMScf/D, a 10km gas distribution network within the zone, and a 6.5km, 10-inch gas pipeline connecting the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System to the Optimera City Gate Station.
Natural gas remains a key component of Nigeria’s energy sector, offering a cleaner and more efficient alternative for industries. As the country focuses on expanding energy access, the Lagos Free Zone gas facility is expected to play a crucial role in supporting industrial development and economic growth.
